When I was a little girl I thought that Psalm 23 was referring to “Shirley Goodness” and her sister, “Mercy” who were two little old ladies in a car distantly trailing me. That’s not too different from the idea that most of us Christians have – that His goodness and mercy is back there somewhere. My husband explained that the Hebrew meaning is quite different from what we think of today. He showed me that it really means that His goodness and His mercy would actively pursue (and overtake) me. Additionally, the idea of “I shall not want” should be translated “I have no lack”. Our heavenly Father really does meet our needs. This song came from meditating on those ideas from the Word.
Special thanks to our young children for helping with all of the instrumental tracks!
The Lord is my Shepherd ~ I lack for nothing
The Lord is my Shepherd ~ He is all I need!
For Your goodness and mercy will pursue me always
They will overtake me all of my days
And I’ll live in Your house, Lord
I’ll be with You always, in Your wonderful presence, forever, always!
Thanks for stopping by!
